Bristol players at Scarborough

Simon Buckley In the 1999 British Championship, Simon Buckley (Keynsham) scored 6 points from 11, finishing level with players such as Keith Arkell and ahead of Joe Gallagher, for his best British Championship so far. A win in the last round against Nick Pert would have given Simon an IM norm.

Melanie and David Buckley were also playing, David got 3½ and Melanie scored 4½. Other members of the Bristol 4NCL squad in the Championship were Craig Hanley (5½ points) and Robert McFarland (5).

Sophie Tidman (Bristol 4NCL) started slowly in the Major Open, but finished somewhere in the top half after a good second week [still waiting for final results].

Michael White jr (Downend) had an excellent run in the under-16's, eventually finishing equal second.

Sam Buckley played in the under-10's and under-11's, getting joint second in the former and joint fifth in the latter. It may not be long before there are four Buckleys in the Championship proper!

Jim Boyce (Clifton) finished tie second in the Seniors.
