Sadly I have to report that Ian Ponter ( Downend Chess Club ) passed away yesterday morning after a long battle against a recurrent brain tumour.

Ian was well known on the chess circuit as he played in many congresses in the south west, and regularly represented Bristol in the 4NCL

Condolences go out to Ian's family and friends at this difficult time.

I would like to echo what Dave said. Ian was a fine chess player and a genuine good man. Such sad news, thoughts with his family.
