I'm sorry to have to let you know of the passing of Ian Biddick who was for many years one of the most active and supportive members of Hanham (formerly 'Hanham & Kingswood') Chess Club. Ian was a prime mover in the Hanham Congresses and in the induction and training of new players in the area. Likewise he will be remembered throughout the Bristol and District Chess League as a strong contender in most of its congresses, he also regularly travelled to many distant venues especially in Cornwall / Devon (from where he originated) and the North West.
A short Humanist Funeral and Cremation will be held at Westerleigh on 27th April at 4:00 pm.

Additionally as a mark of respect there will be a one minute's silence prior to Round 1 of Hanham Gambit Night.

I played against Ian in a friendly on my first night at the Hanham and Kingswood chess club in the 70's, I declined a draw and he went on to make me regret my decision. He was a keen player and a gentleman and Bristol Chess will be the poorer for his passing. RIP.

He was a decent chess player, who contributed much to Bristol Ominbus Chess Club and Hanham Chess Club during his times there.
