The ECF President, CJ de Mooi, advised the Board on Saturday, 8 September that he was stepping down with immediate effect, having accepted a new position which he considered incompatible with his ECF responsibilities. The Board should like to express its thanks to CJ for his contribution to English chess during the three years of his service as President and wishes him well in his future endeavors.

Copied from the ECF site.

I'll edit this as and when members of the Bristol League tell me how they would like me to vote, but at present this is how I'll be voting, based on opinions already received and where no opinions have been received my personal preferences:

In all of the positions where there is only one candidate standing (or the minimum number of candidates required, in the case of a couple of positions) I'll be voting for them in preference to none of the above.
For FIDE Delegate I'll be voting for Nigel Short.

Just a reminder that the AGM is next weekend, so any views on anything related to this, let me know by next Fri.

There is discussion on the English Chess Forum that Stuart Conquest would be amenable to being appointed President by the Board if Roger Edwards is not elected at the AGM.

Whilst I much preferred Roger's systematic and 'down to earth' approach to what was on offer from CJ de Mooi, I accept that these attributes may be more applicable to the CEO post (for example) than to that of President.

Do you know Stuart Conquest Ben? If so, and you believe him to be the better option and the Board are likely to appoint him to fill a vacancy, I am happy that you should use your vote to achieve this end.

This is only my view of the developing situation and I imagine you are in a much better position to assess things. I am happy to leave it to you.

Hi Geoff,

I've sent Stuart a message on Facebook asking him to confirm whether or not he would be prepared to stand as ECF President were the position to remain vacant post- AGM. I can't say I know him personally, but I believe he may well be a better candidate for President then Roger Edwards. That being said, if I don't hear back from him prior to the AGM, or if he doesn't indicate clearly his position on the matter, then I wouldn't be prepared to risk there potentially being no President and an eager volunteer being cast aside, and so would stick with my voting intentions as before.
