Ben can you advise on this?

One of my fellow Hanham chess-players told me this week that he rang the ECF office wondering where his membership card was (he had joined online) and was given the information that they don't send them out unless you contact the office asking for them, but if you joined by contacting the ECF office direct then they send the cards out.

This seems a bit daft to me, as they should either issue everyone with membership cards or not issue any! I've renewed mine this week so will wait and see what happens, but is this something worth raising?

Does seem silly issuing membership cards to some and not to others. I assume the main purpose of the card is to prove you are a member to club captains, congress organisers etc? In which case, with the list of members available online, it shouldn't be too much of an issue.
