Thanks to all who took part in the congress. There were 77 players in all, 41 of them Bristol league players, and let’s not forget this was also the league championships.
I thought it went quite well, and my special thanks to Geoff Gammon for assisting with the arbiting. The only flies in the ointment were the banging door, the clacking vents on Sunday when it was windy, and the member of bar staff who accidentally turned half the lights out on Saturday afternoon. My thanks also to those who stayed behind to help clear up at the end.



All grading prizes were awarded to the lowest graded player in the highest score level.

OPEN (15 players)

1st = Lim Zhou Ren (Lewes) and Arturo Wong (Chard & Ilminster) 4/5
3rd. David Buckley (Bath) – Trophy and Bristol League Champion 3.5

Grading prize (under 180) Stefan Lehmann (De Uil, Holland) 3

MAJOR (U 165) (28 players)

1st David Dugdale (Thornbury) 4.5 - Section 2 Trophy
2nd Mike Harris (Horfield) 4
3rd Arthur Hibbitt (Grendel) 3.5

Grading prizes

U155 – Rob Warmerdam (De Uil, Holland) 3.5
U145 – Mike Meadows (University) 3.5
U136 – Colin Maclellan (Dundee Victoria) 3

MINOR (U130) 34 players

1st= Maurice Richards (Liskeard) and Malcolm Probert (White Knights,Wales) 4.5
3rd Antony Sage (Bath) 4 – Section 3 Trophy

Grading prizes

U120 – Guy Greenland (Leamington Spa) 3.5
U113 – Chris Smith (Thornbury) 2.5
U90 - Shaun Walsh (Downend) 2

Junior (U16) Prize – Owen Bennett (Newport) 3

My thanks to Graham and Geoff for their hard work, the tournament was a great success. Shame I mucked up my last game tho...

Nice to have won a prize... but I'm sure I only scored 2.5! Hope I'm not doing the rightful recipient out of a prize! :oops:

You're quite right Chris, you did score 2.5, as did four others, but as the lowest graded player, the prize is yours. Enjoy!!
