Here is notice of some things in the near future, some of which you ought to know about, and maybe one or two that have slipped under the radar.

28 Feb - 2 March. East Devon congress in Exeter. Always popular with Bristol players, and I've managed to get my grade back down so I can defend my Minor section cup from last year.
Same sections as our congresses (Open, U155, U125). Entry forms on the ECF website or: John Stevens, 67 Holland Road, Peverell, Plymouth, PL3 4PQ. Email johnkfstephens@gmail.com

Saturday 15th March. A charity rapidplay in Newport, to raise money for the Phillipines Typhoon Fund. Suggested minimum entry fee of £6. 5 rounds, 25 mins. on the clock. No prizes, it's just for fun, and you are invited to bring along any 'pre-loved' chess stuff to sell on a stall. Entry forms on the WCU website, or contact me if you're having trouble getting hold of one.

17 - 19 April. Bristol Spring Congress. This is also our League Congress. Highest placed Bristol League player in each section will receive a trophy, presented at the AGM in May. Entry forms from me, the league website, or the ECF one. Bristol chess grand prix, with a multiple of 10. There are moves afoot to hold a Sicilian Gambit night on the Saturday evening of the congress.

There will also be the Steve Boniface Memorial Congress, probably in June, possibly August, but I'll let you know more about that when I know it. Basically, it will be a copy of the Winter and Spring congresses at the Holiday Inn.
